Learn to Manage Your Fears Around the Election

I recently made a post on social media and thought it would be a good blog post. As you can tell from my blog page, I'm more about speaking on the podcast vs writing on my blog which is evident by how much time goes by in between posts.

I'm going to try to get better about this, because I do believe some people prefer to read over listening to somebody speak. With the upcoming election, I thought this would be a good time to get back to the blog.

The ironic thing is I am providing people with with the skills to feel better around election time, but most of you are so triggered you can't receive this gift. It's okay though. I get it. I used to be the same way. Which is why I know what I am sharing is effective and worth learning.

I will continue to put my work out there around how to manage your Brain BS™ and it will be here when you are ready to approach politics and elections in a more empowering way. Meantime, let's just plant a seed for now if you are not quite ready to do that yet. Here is the post:

So when I got certified as a life coach, we learned a thing called the Model and it was developed by Brooke Castillo.

This is the model:

C-Circumstance

T-Thought

F-Feeling

A-Action

R-Result

The idea is that the circumstance doesn't make us feel anything. It's what we are thinking about it that does. Thoughts create feelings, those lead to actions, and the result is always about us.

So I am going to use the model to give you an example of how differently we can look at politics and the election if we give ourselves permission to become more conscious and responsive, instead of triggered and reactive.

I'm going to share two opposing ways of looking at the same thing to show you how powerful our minds are and what they create for us.

One is the unintentional model and it comes from our subconscious programming.

The second one is an intentional model, that comes from thinking consciously, and it can feel way more empowering if we are able to believe it.

Unintentional model

C- Upcoming election

T- I don't know what I am going to do if my candidate does not win!

F- Terror

A- Judge others who vote differently than we do, dwell in negativity, shutdown communication with members of opposing party, give away our personal power, look outside ourselves for the solution and the answers, speculate on the worst case scenario, indulge in all or nothing thinking and lose sight of the whole person, hate America and threaten to leave it, emit a negative energy frequency to the entire planet.

R- We are a part of the problem and contribute to further division and intolerance for people having differing opinions and beliefs (which is a bigger problem than who lands in the oval office!)

Or consider the more conscious model:

The Intentional Model

C- Upcoming election

T- I want my candidate to win, but what is most important is how I take care of myself and show up to my own community .

F- Trusting

A- Limit news intake, be selective about what we share on social media, maintain an open heart, go inward to work on what is triggering us, continue to see the whole person, fact check, recognize when we are projecting our thoughts onto other people, recognize mirroring and that if somebody is triggering us, it is reflecting something about us, become more aware of how we are being manipulated by the media, don't believe our Brain BS, be honest and authentic but also kind and respectful, actively do what we can do to support our own family, friends, co-workers and community, refrain from fighting in text threads on FB, stop trying to change people's minds that have confirmation bias, read Tania Israel's book Facing The Fracture: How to Navigate the Challenges of Living in a Divided Nation, recognize the majority of us are moderate and want the same things, become a more evolved version of ourselves by taking back our personal power, and use election season as an opportunity for personal growth.

R- We are a part of the solution, we feel way better, and I we are actively taking care of ourselves and our community.

So see how the same circumstance can cause us to feel so differently, which leads us to taking entirely different actions, and gives us a different result?

One permits us to maintain or reclaim our personal power, the other one robs us of it.

We have been conditioned to believe that we have to approach politics the way we do. The way we always have been.

But that's Brain BS. We can always choose to change.

Both of these options (and more!) are available to you.

So what do you say?

Do you want to become more conscious and powerful, or do you want to feel disempowered and full of fear?

I know what I want, because I'm a Super Star!😉
